The booking and selling of air tickets on the Internet is growing rapidly. Many studies have shown that travelers view the Internet as a safe, fast and economic way of getting information and booking their trips. In addition, it has been suggested that, in a few years, one of every five bookings will be done via the web. Bearing this in mind, CEICOM decided to develop an on-line ticket-booking solution for the aviation industry.

	Cubika and CEICOM developed e-ARACS, an Internet booking solution which has already been chosen by several clients internationally. The success was due, on the one hand, to Cubika's contribution. The company has a high delivery capacity. It resorts to development processes and methodologies of international standard and has been involved in leading J2EE projects in countries like France, Spain, Brazil, Chile and Mexico. On the other hand, CEICOM contributed with their expertise and vast experience in the aviation industry. E-Aracs is implemented as a module integrated into the airlines' web sites and is entirely based on J2EE standards. The framework relies on standard technologies that make possible the implementation of e-commerce functions for airlines. This is done either by creating a specific portal or by adapting the airlines' existing portal with full flexibility in the graphic design of the web pages. The solution is reliable and scalable -to reach the size required by the company-. It has been designed as an open solution -to allow for its integration into different systems of airline companies- that is flexible, compatible with any combination of technologies and fully independent of the hardware, operating system, etc.

	The implementation of e-ARACS increases ticket sales significantly, given that the Internet is seen as a fast way of making transactions from home or work. On the other hand, the implementation of an on-line booking system reduces administrative and intermediary costs significantly, given that the booking and selling operations are performed directly between the airline company and the passenger.
